Title: compatible game list
Post by: Uthar on July 05, 2013, 01:27:25 PM
Default plugin settings:
Video: gles2n64
R3400: dynarec

Some common settings when trying out games:
gles2n64, turn up the frameskip setting to "No more than 2/4"
gles2rice, enable/disable Auto Frameskip.
gles2glide64, does not currently have frameskipping, so avoid using it if one of the other plugins work for a particular game.

I have started making a list with all the information I found on this forum. If you have tested some other games that work let me know and I'll update my post.

Still some 300 games left to test but let's try to complete this list :)

Just a note - the next release will have auto-frameskip for the glide plugin, which will be the new default.  It has vastly improved compatibility, and auto-frameskip makes it about as playable as the other plugins.  So you might want to hold off on filling this all in ;)

Thanks for the tip :)

I tweaked a couple of the items (will fill in a lot more later when I'm at my computer).  I suggest using green for little to no tweaking, yellow for playable with some more extensive tweaking or a few issues, orange for playable with some significant issues, and red for not playable.  Might have to make a judgement call for a few of them, but colors should make the list easy to classify games at a glance.

Thanks for the additions Paul. And littleguy/paul, good luck with the development. Can't wait for the improved gles2glide64 :)

I thought it'd be better if people could post instead of having to email you (no offense) so I created a wiki page here: http://mupen64plus-ouya.wikia.com/wiki/Mupen64Plus_Ouya_Wiki

I'll be checking as many games on this list as I can, and if you want to mess around with the format of the wiki, go ahead.
Title: Re: compatible game list
Post by: Uthar on July 08, 2013, 03:42:44 AM
There is no need to mail me. I didn't write that anywhere as far as I can see?

If you have information about another game you can post it in this topic and I'll merge it with the first post.
Title: Re: compatible game list

That's what I meant. Instead of relying on you to add stuff, people can just add it themselves. It makes more sense. I'm not trying to intrude on you, I just made the page for simplicity. People can use it or not. Their choice.

Thanks guys for taking the initiative on these things.  Other users have started similar lists in the past with varying levels of success.  (Here (http://mupen64plus.wikia.com/wiki/Mupen64Plus,_Android_Edition_%28AE%29_Wiki)'s one for example.)  At some point I'd love to make an in-app button to take users to these kinds of lists, with the hope that other users would contribute and keep the pages up to date.  I've never used wikia, maybe I'll tinker around with it, see how easy it would be to programmatically link to game-specific pages.

@Paul - Does your hosting plan easily support a wiki (e.g. has a one-click installer for mediawiki or something)?  Or does SMF have such a capacity?
Title: Re: compatible game list
Post by: Uthar on July 08, 2013, 10:35:15 AM
@harrisrwe
Yes that is a downside of this list. But the advantage is that it's on this forum and makes it easier for people to find. If the wiki could somehow be combined with this site it would be even better :) I think littleguy question is related to that?
I think it's a good idea to manage both lists. I'll add a link to your wiki page in my post.

I'd be willing to host a wiki in case Paul can't. Plenty of space/traffic left on my webhosting thingy.
Title: Re: compatible game list

Or does SMF have such a capacity?

I am quite sure there are plugins for this.  Just need a little time to research it.  In the mean time my personal preference is a thread like this, where the OP is maintained by myself and a dedicated user.  I have found that wikis tend to be neglected over time, and you end up with nobody even knowing about them (for example, did how many people know about compatibility wiki linked to in the Beta Testing Has Begun thread?)  Integrating a wiki with paulscode.com via an SMF plugin would be the best solution, so I'll look into this.

Star Fox 64 seems to work perfectly with no tweaking, at least for the first level. I'll play some more later to confirm it can at least be beaten on one path, not a chance in hell I'm gonna hunt down every freaking level though.

Edit: I previously had the rendering set to 640x480 instead of native when I initially tested it; after cranking thatback up to native on level 2, I started getting control lag, specifically in the a button (the lasers would often act as if I was holding them down when I was firing rapidly)

Sure you can :) What video plugin / settings gave you the best results?
Title: Re: compatible game list
Post by: pirohmaniac on August 17, 2013, 01:57:46 AM
Try the Glide video plugin, it helps a lot. The pause menu shouldn't be taking that long to open, three seconds at the most for me.

But really this has been answered here already http://www.paulscode.com/forum/index.php?topic=765.msg7343#msg7343

Body harvest "works", but you wont be able to even complete the first level  :'(. In case you don't know about Body harvest, it's one of the best games the N64 has to offer.

Not a single emulator can emulate Body harvest properly. They all have this problem.
Think of it as a challenge/oportunity for you guys :D. This could be the very first emulator that makes Body harvest playable until the end of the game.

Checking the problem by yourself will require just 1 minute of gameplay:

As you start playing, keep walking forward untill you find a house next to a drawbridge and a green truck, then try to go up the stairs the house has on one of its sides and see what happens.

You won't get past the third part of the first level because of this.

It could be an opportunity if any of us on the team had the skills needed to debug the core.  You might have better luck posing the challenge to Richards team. :P

I want to contribute some stuff

Snowboard Kids run best with gles2glide64 and an resolution of 640x480
Other plugins Works too but are way less performant in the later stages... Some Slowdowns will Still occur , but the game itself
Was Rather weird with its framerate on the n64

Mario Party works good with gles2n64, but some mini games have visibility problems.. in the Game where You actually Should search
For the Hidden Threasure, the threasure is visible :D

Yoshis Story works really good with gles2glide

international superstar Soccer 2000 works not good :( with default Settings the camera ingame is totally Screwed up.. with other plugins the Game works but textures are a mess... menus are Working with All plugins

Mace The Dark Age - all plugins except for gless2glide have text problems, but the other plugins are running way better

But i Have a question About smash brothers.. i Know that gles2rice should be the one to go, but i Have weird flickering :(..
I saw It rather flawless on Youtube and the guy had no Errors.. Has this gone Worse with the latest Version or am i missing something..

Also Mystical Ninja is considered As Working here? I only have 12-15 fps :( it Works but Slooow

Excitebike 64 - Sadly not working

Thx for your Effort.. this is the Reason I bought an ouya, love the performance on many games

I'll do some version comparisons to see.  To be honest I haven't had a lot of time for testing on the OUYA lately (other than a few sanity checks before publishing updates) so it is very possible a regression slipped through the cracks without me noticing it.  My wife and son play Smash Bros all the time on there, so I know it has worked very well in the past at least.

No problems :-)  i will play a lot n64 ouya in the next months and will report best Settings or problems :-)

Thx for the fast Answer

EDIT: Another compatibility update on majoras mask (which i am currently playing through)..

When you get the notepad from the bomber gang, only gles2glide64 displays it correctly. In all other plugins nothing will be displayed.. Perhaps this will help others playing the game ;)

I have another bunch of tests i have done!!

EDIT:

one important update i ran into a few days ago..

Mario party 3 has a game breaker with gles2rice
The Mini Game "Coconut Conk" glitches and the game will be screwed.. It happend to me in the last round of our multiplayer session..really bad :(

The only solution i can see is to make a save state when this game occure and switch to gles2glide (which has slow downs but at least make the game work correct), and after that switch back to gles2rice.. I hope i can prevent some broken mario party 3 sessions with this info!

I've seen numerous reports that Mystical Ninja starring Goemon runs very laggy, but FWIW it appears to be work perfectly fine with the Rice plug-in, although the HUD on the bottom of the screen is pretty screwed up. Doesn't affect game play unless you were really distracted by it. Just my .02

Wow, I haven't been on this forum in forever! I recently grabbed ~200 N64 ROMs and I'm looking to try them on my Ouya. So far I tried Perfect Dark, which had crazy lag after the intro screens; Bust-a-Move 2, which also had crazy lag (and more specific issues depending on which graphics plugin I used), and Bust-a-Move 99, which worked more or less perfectly! I didn't think to check on here for the status of things though, so I'll have to go back and do some more rigorous testing.

Which list is the most accurate/up to date, the one here or on the wiki?
Title: Re: compatible game list
Post by: pWEN on August 29, 2014, 08:07:37 AM
I had a little time last night and went through a couple of games. I forgot there are three different graphics plugins so I was just using the default. I'll try to get some more extensive testing done this weekend.

Doom64:
Ran like a dream. No problems outside of sometimes finicky right analog stick. It's bound to the C-buttons, and didn't seem to always pick up on input. Could just be user error.

Blast Corps:
Opening animations had clipping problems, crashed at the Rare logo. Couldn't get further than that.

Beetle Adventure Racing:
Menus ran fine, lagged when starting a race and when entering name at the end. Some textures had a hall of mirrors look, such as the castle near the end of the lap on Coventry Cove. Audio pops a bit.

Super Smash Bros:
Slight lag in intro movie, some textures not showing up... Or maybe it's just everyone's eyes but Kirby??

Track & Field - crashes the whole ouya.. no matter what plugin is used
Worms Armageddon - could not enter single player modes.. crashes always.. multiplayer could not be tested
Diddy Kong Racing - works best on gles2rice, still seems to have some framrate issues, but so did the original game..
