Unofficial Build - Mupen64plus (Bubble Build)

Read this first!
1. This build is not supported by the official developer
2. Is an xperia build so it only works on android 2.3+
3. Uninstall any previous version of my builds before updating to a newer one.

- Added gles2rice speed boost (thanks to scorpian16v for findng this)
- Uses high res icons made by shuy3n (looks great in the xperia launcher)
- Added swap analog and c buttons option (good for goldeneye)
- Reworded some menu options to make it more obvious what they do.

Bug fixes
- Fixed "Junk graphics bug" (forces screen clear)
- Stopped build sharing configs with official build
- Stopped build clashing with the official build (thanks for the help paul!)

General Discussion / New Mupen64plus-ae promotional video
« on: January 25, 2012, 08:17:50 AM »
I have decided the old video I made is way too crappy to be the promotional video for mupen so I want to create a professional one, my aim is to create a video like the FPSE video:

I will use the xperia play as the phone in the video and I will show it playing game with the gamepad open and later with the gamepad closed (showing the on screen controls) It should only take a day to edit and put together, before I make it I was wandering if anybody had any suggestions for it?

General Discussion / (Guide) Compiling Mupen64plus-ae on Mac
« on: January 17, 2012, 05:49:03 PM »
Compiling Guide!

Here is a guide on how to compile Mupen64plus-ae on Mac OSX.

The terminal commands for compiling both the regular mupen and the xperia play branch are provided below, only use the commands for the project you are trying to build.

Before starting the guide you will need to...

1. Download the android SDK and save it to your home folder
2. Download the android NDK and save it to your home folder
3. Download the mupen64plus-ae source code and unzip the project to your desktop

So it should look like this...

Setting up the project

1. Adding the SDK and NDK to your path

To open and edit your path use this terminal command:
open -a "TextEdit" .bash_profile

These are the directories you need to add to the path to use the NDK and ANT. These will work assuming the android SDK and NDK are saved to you're home folder:

export PATH=${PATH}:~/android-sdk-macosx/platform-tools
export PATH=${PATH}:~/android-ndk-r7
export PATH=${PATH}:~/android-sdk-macosx/tools

2. Using NDK build on your project

To run NDK build on your project use the following terminal command.

Xperia play project:
cd ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-core-ARCHs
cp ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-SDL1.3-xperia-play

Normal project:
cd ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-core-ARCHs
cp ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-SDL1.3

3. Automate the copy pastes

This terminal command will automate the copy paste operations for you. The command will work assuming you save the mupen project to the desktop.

Xperia play project:
cd ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-core-ARCHs/libs/armeabi
cp ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-SDL1.3-xperia-play/libs/armeabi/
cp ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-SDL1.3-xperia-play/obj/local/armeabi/
cd ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-core-ARCHs/libs/armeabi-v7a/
cp ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-SDL1.3-xperia-play/libs/armeabi-v7a/
cp ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-SDL1.3-xperia-play/obj/local/armeabi-v7a/

Normal project:
cd ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-core-ARCHs/libs/armeabi
cp ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-SDL1.3/libs/armeabi/
cp ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-SDL1.3/obj/local/armeabi/
cd ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-core-ARCHs/libs/armeabi-v7a/
cp ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-SDL1.3/libs/armeabi-v7a/
cp ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-SDL1.3/obj/local/armeabi-v7a/

Building the project

To build the project use the following terminal command:

Xperia play project:
cd ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-SDL1.3-xperia-play
ant debug

Normal project
cd ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-SDL1.3
ant debug

If building fails then make sure you install all the android api levels in the SDK manager and run this script:
Xperia play project:
rm ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-SDL1.3-xperia-play/build.xml

Normal project:
rm ~/Desktop/mupen64plus-SDL1.3/build.xml

Then run this:
(DONT forget to replace USERNAME with your username)

Xperia play project
android update project --target 12 --path /Users/USERNAME/Desktop/mupen64plus-SDL1.3-xperia-play

Normal project:
android update project --target 12 --path /Users/USERNAME/Desktop/mupen64plus-SDL1.3

General Discussion / Possibly useful info
« on: January 09, 2012, 02:10:04 PM »
I found a good thread on the mednafen forums which is a discussion between the dev of mednafen and a dev porting the emulator to android.

Im not sure if any of the info is any useful to you paul but one part did catch my eye when they said about raising the FPS cap in android to 60. The FPS in mupen64plus-ae never seems to go above 30 for me.

Miscellaneous / I really wish more phones were made like this...
« on: January 06, 2012, 06:29:41 PM »
Its an old phone but my friend used to have it and besides the xperia play its the best phone I ever used in regards to emulation controls. The keyboard fits gaming perfectly but almost no android phones have d-pads anymore and even the older ones that did always seemed to have them on the wrong side.

The phone is called the motorola dext and its only really powerful enough to emulate consoles like nes and gbc but like I said the controls were great.

General Discussion / Piracy for a free emulator... uh what?
« on: December 22, 2011, 06:24:13 AM »
Ive seen mupen64plus-ae pop up on lots of piracy websites, all you have to do is google "mupen64plus-ae" and they pop up. the funny thing is that the description was even copied word for word where it says you can get it for free on your website.

Too quick to pirate too silly to read.

Device: Xperia play
CPU: Qualcomm 1 GHz Scorpion (Snapdragon)
RAM: 512mb

Description:  Some xperia play users still have the C-buttons mapped to the left with the mark version of the app.

General Discussion / Why does the app download data on first startup?
« on: December 18, 2011, 06:49:30 PM »
Its been bugging me for a while and I cant remember if it was already answered. Why is the data downloaded, could it not be included as part of the app itself?

General Discussion / Non animated touch controls?
« on: December 18, 2011, 01:09:19 PM »
I cant seem to find a way to enable the non animated touch controls in the options. I seem to remember hearing that this gave a small speed boost to though with lower end devices?

Am I blind or were they removed from the emulator? :P

EDIT: never mind I found that the non animated ones are labelled as "touch" in the skins section.

Your Projects / My Minecraft mod assistant tool
« on: November 29, 2011, 12:15:46 PM »
My first project is a minecraft tool called AutoModder, its a tool that allows you to install Hippoplatimus's amazing Mod Manager tool with a single click. This is good because it means users who are inexperienced with modding dont have to edit the name of the minecraft.jar or use the run command to access the minecraft bin folder.

The problem with the original version was that when minecraft was launched the mod screen would appear but when gameplay started it would be stuck on a black screen (annoying!). I rounded the problem down the the meta-inf, this file needed to be removed before the game could start so I needed to find a way to unzip the minecraft.jar delete the meta-inf and repackage it.

I couldnt find a way to do that using the .net framework so I had to use a more hacky way which renames the .jar to a .zip and opens the correct folder for the user to delete the meta-inf file manually, it all works but I would rather get this done without the user needing to do any additional work.

Heres the new beta version that allows the deleting of the meta-inf:

Your Projects / Some simple nyan cat games I made :)
« on: September 12, 2011, 04:47:18 PM »
Here are some simple Nyan cat games for android that I made a while ago :)

Nyan cat chase:

Nyan cat chase is a very simple game where you mash the directional button to travel in the desired direction to try and catch the coins which are jumping around the screen.

Nyan cat catch:

Nyan cat catch is a very simple game where Nyan cat randomly jumps around the screen and you have to touch it to get points. (its just a variation of the game above)

Both games have issues on screens with a resolution less than 854 ? 480, oh well. :P
