Support / Mupen textures on Pandora
« on: July 03, 2012, 02:45:27 PM »
As I've shown in my last video, Mupen64plus - AE has some problems with textures on the Pandora's Android GB port with Rice Video-Plugin.
Config is :
Pandora 512 MB rebirth edition OC@800MHz
Notaz Cyanogenmod port of Gingerbread 2.3.7
Mupen64plus - Android Edition last test version, posted in beta thread.
Rice Video with enabled texture import and Risio's retro mario beta. But smeared, wrong textures and missing shadows are also on stock textures.

Latest official beta shows the same result, tested with testversion because of the better performance.

- Zelda - MM: same error after the first cut scene.
- Donkey Kong64: Emulator resumes to home after "OK"
- Shadow Man: same "light through walls" bug

So far, it semms both versions on Android and Pandora have the same bugs in their latest official versions.

I will make some more comparsions the next time and edit this post. Maybe I can find some usefull things to improove Mupen64plus-AE.

Miscellaneous / Work in progress : Mupen64plus 2.0 - Pandora Port
« on: March 10, 2012, 01:01:24 AM »
A few days ago, Stradian takes the attempt to port Kris's port of the Rice Plugin to the Pandora's Mupen64plus version.
First, it semms, without any success.
Now he tooks a completely roll up of the emulator and ported the core from 1.5 to 2.0.

Since there is again further development by the Pandora community, maybe we can hopefully expect even more new ideas and bugfixes for Android and WebOS.  :)

I'm curious what commes first. The Pandora port of mupen64+ 2.0 or my Pandora.    ;)

Just out of curiosity, did framskip remarkable improve speed on other device.
Did anyone a test ?

Here is a comparsion with gles2rice. First without frameskip, second part with frameskip.

Ok, it's not smooth as it should be. But you can say now it's playable. :)

I did the test on Tegra 2.

You only need to add this in mupen64plus.cfg
Code: [Select]

SkipFrame =1

Support / Import plugin not possible
« on: January 22, 2012, 03:45:29 AM »
In v 1.4 it's not possible to use the import plugin option, because browsing to subfolders are broken.
Would be fine, if you can reimplement this feature back in the next version. Because the new version of Rice plugin breaks some graphics.
For example, the screen where you select the game character is now empty. Only the background is visible.

So, since there isn't much to test in the last few days, I'm toying around with some config files.
I'm trying to load hires texture packs for Mario, but I get only errors about the .png files if loaded. What is missing in the rice plugin ?

First my steps I've done before :

- on mupen64plus.cfg

Code: [Select]

LoadHiResTextures =True

that enables rice plugin to search for textures in data/hires_texture/ROM NAME/

- created the folder in data/hires_texture/ on mupen64plus directory on sdcard.
- I put a in n64oid working folder with textures inside from hires_texture. In this case SUPER MARIO 64

But it loads only the standard texture. Logcat gives many errors "cannot get image infofor file: *** "
That's all.

Ok that's not a essential necessary feature to improove the emulator. But I'm curious about if it can work on mupen64plus - ae.

I hope Kris does further work on this plugin and shares his work for this Android port.  :)

General Discussion / N64 4 DroiD - another rip-off
« on: January 14, 2012, 12:30:21 AM »
Oh, I see in the market a new N64 emulator. It seems not only based of yongzh's work.
No, in this case some bytes were lend from mupen64plus - ae.

Anyone bought this s**t ?  ???

As I read through the internet because the graphic problems with mali400, I read a post from schtruck, one of the FPSE authors, that he ported an OpenGl driver th Android and he' wants to release the source, if it's ready.
Can it be ported to mupen64plus ?
Somes good news,

While waiting for LDchen's work delivery which will make compatibility growing up another time, i was working on OpenGL plugin.

My work has well progressed, and actually i can say that it run very well. Enoughtly fast and if not the automatic frameskipping does its job. Graphically, even on my Asus Transformer (10") it's very impressive. Actually Tegra2 gives the best result in term of speed and in 1280x720 (incredible) , but Adreno 205 run very well too (most of all games are full speed without frameskipping) . On Mali400 there is actually a problem i have to fix. I haven't tried on SGX540, but i think speed will be between Tegra2 and Adreno 205.

It stay now to implement onscreen button and all will be OK.

FPse support by default Software plugin as currently, and support the load of external OpenGL plugin . OpenGL plugin will be provided freely on and source will be downloadable because we aren't authors but just porters and optimizers ....

He has even problems with mali400.  :(

Support / Emulator shoots down by unknown file extension.
« on: January 03, 2012, 02:15:51 AM »
The emulator needs the correct file extension now or missed some.
I have a game, that came with extension .rom. It needs to be unziped and renamed in Re-Volt.n64 to make it run.

Support / Under "Change" no plugins are listed
« on: December 22, 2011, 02:13:55 PM »
In another forum the problem came up, that under "Change" no plugins are listed.
The users hardware specs are : Xperia Play, root with stock 2.3.4.
Deleting and reload didn't help. The default plugins are set and some games are loading. But he can't see the plugin list.
Any ideas ?

General Discussion / Sound question
« on: December 18, 2011, 10:18:16 AM »
A short question relatedto to sound.  :)
If I disable the sound plugin and let play an MP3 in background, there seemds no framedrop and no sound stuttering, even with rice plugin.
Is it possible to let the ingame sound play as a separate thread ?
On "the other emu ", yongzh must be doing something in these way, because there are only minor soundbugs. Even if the framerate goes low.
