General Discussion / Re: Brainstorming Version 3.0

Screenshots are looking nice!
I have a request for the controller support (not sure how difficult this would be)
Say I have a few controllers connected to the ouya, I then run Mupen, and use the new awesome menu to start a game.
I would like to be able to then press a random button on my controller and a small text overlay appears on screen saying this controller has now been set as N64 controller 1. My 2 friends can then do the same, 1 will press next and become player 2, and the third will then be player 3 etc.
I think method would work great and allows you to get in to the games quickly without shuffling around in the menu's too much. What do you think?

Save slots are cool, it's just remembering to save regularly that is the problem

Hi Paul

I played some more tonight. The teleport crash did not happen, must have been a one off. I then played a bit on and as soon as I was inside jabu jabu, the game video looked like it had frozen but the music carried on. I had a save state from about 1 min before so tried again and it didn't do it the second time. Had no problems up until this point. Perhaps I've been unlucky to just experience 2 rare crashes so close to each other. Games like this could do with a 5 minute auto save state option :)

Not just me that found it funny then, whoever set my avatar to that is a legend!

I'll try and get you a save state if I can reproduce the bug, cheers guys :)

Been playing ocarina of time on the ouya - using glide, 5 frameskips (default settings I think)

Everything was fine up until I met zelda and her face was going crazy, flickering, and ended up just being black (I've attached a photo).
Not game breaking at all just quite strange.

Then I got futher in to the game, the bit before the third dungeon as a kid where you have to use the teleport tunnel at the bottom of zoras domain. The teleport thing takes you to the hyrule lake where you have to find a bottle with a note it. As soon as I entered this tunnel the game crashed and took me back to the menu. I haven't tried again yet as my most recent save was from about an hour before. Was hoping someone else knew about this problem and if either of these 2 could be fixed? Thanks :)

I've just had a great idea, once version 3 is futher in development, would it be possible to have all the settings per game stored in a text file. This way we can work out the settings for all the games on an ouya for example, and then share the text file with others to create a full master file! Once this has happened, the next step would be to load the master file by default (or even ask the user) if an ouya is detected on first run for example. This would obviously work for other devices but think ouya is a great starting point.

Hope I made sense, what do you guys think?

Ok, here is my first attempt at a UI mockup.  Keep in mind that I am no artist, and that this is a really rough representation just to get the conversation going (there are already some things I dislike about this after looking at it rather than just imagining it my head):

Basically the idea here is that in the current UI, the games are in effect a child of the settings.  Instead the focus should change to where the settings are a child of the games.  This would function basically like the gallery, where you start out at your list of games, with categories like "Resume Playing" shown here.  There would be an option to search your device for games (folder navigation would go away completely).  Bringing an item to focus would give you options to play/ resume or settings.  Settings would default to whatever is "auto" for that particular game, and would remember the user's preferences (and an option to return to defaults).  All settings would be dependent on the selected game.

Anyway, it is still a rough idea, but should give you the idea of where my imagination was going.

THIS LOOKS AWESOME! Exactly what we ned for the ouya version! It's all about the games, and settings come after, this way settings per game would work fantastic.

A good test for this would be Ouya, where every device is the same. Although rather than just comments, there should be a small table which holds data for which video plugin and any other settings etc work best, this can then be expanded to iother devices at a later stage.

The best way I think would rom...a message saying "this game has compatibility infomation stored, do you want to automatically change settings everytime you play this game to the best plugings/settings for your device" and "do you want to read the comments/wiki now?"

Once a game has been setup it will remember it, until a change happens to the table/wiki.

I would also volunteer time to maintain it all.

So does anyone know what big improvements the glide64 port will bring to the emulator? From what I've read it seems loads better, but I'm not 100% sure.

Hi Paul

I might be interested in doing sound work/sound effects for the game. I'm a music producer (typically dance/electronic) but I'm very influenced by early video game sounds and sometimes incorporate them in to my songs. I have quite a good ear for sound effects especially too. Let me know if I could be of any help.

Hi guys, cant wait to get my ouya to start usign your emulator.

Few questions though...

Does mulitple Ouya controllers work for multiplayers games (and does it remember configs etc)

And what are the playability of some of the common games eg...

Mario 64
Mario Kart
Banjo Kazooie

and other others peoples have tested.
