Thats more or less what I did for the XNA version of my game. I used 32x32 tiles for the foreground to create the actual level itself (Walls, platforms etc) and the background consisted of 3 layers which used parallax scolling to give a nice effect when the character moves. The background images repeat over and over kind of how old cartoons used to be animated.

I can imagine doing this in a 3D setting is much more complicated :D

I will never finish the game so somebody might as well put them to use. :D

When I have some free time I wouldn't mind making some proper music for your game. The one in the folder linked above is more suited to a 8bit style game.

Speaking of platforming games I actually made a prototype for my own html5 platforming game during the last ludum dare. I never finished it (probably never will) but it still felt awesome to have a working game with proper graphics sound effects and music. :)

I also made a slightly more advanced version of the engine with wall jumping but I made it in flash rather than html5.

I also made in in XNA with xbox controller support, I managed to get parallax scrolling working in the XNA version.
It kinda sucks that XNA is getting phased out, it was pretty nice to use.

I cant remember if I already mentioned it a while back in the shoutbox.

Great job on the android port! I dont know if you knew this buts its possible to run cave story on Android using the PSP emulator PPSSPP. Obviously its not ideal and you need a powerful device to play it but its still pretty cool to see. :)

I would love to help. I can make music but Im not sure how the N64 handles music. Is it all midi based or could audio files (mp3, ogg etc) be used? Since we wont be using cartridges rom sizes should not be much of  a concern.

At the end of the day the emulator is the least of your worries. Like you said the most important thing right now is your family.

Your emulators are open source so anybody could update and make changes to them so I dont see why people are getting so angry at you to update them.

Not sure why but with that latest debug test yabause exits when trying to load a game. (I tried sonic R again)

EDIT: For clarification it does not force close, it just quits and continues to run in the background. If I open the app again it takes me back to the rom select screen.

Darn, I was hoping it would fix Sonic R.  Is there anything useful in the logcat?

EDIT: Oh it seems the emulator still tries to launch games when no bios is selected, when I installed the new version it forgot that I had previously set a bios.

I tried it just now and sonic R loads fine with no graphical glitches in menus, however when the race starts I do get some 'static' looking graphical glitches.

Not sure why but with that latest debug test yabause exits when trying to load a game. (I tried sonic R again)

EDIT: For clarification it does not force close, it just quits and continues to run in the background. If I open the app again it takes me back to the rom select screen.

This could be done the same way that the old tiger emulators did where it shows a screenshot of your latest save state next to the game. That way you would have images next to the games and there wouldn't be any legal issues including them with your app (because you wont).

Hi all,i want you ask is this still compatible with armv6?When i tried to run it opens main menu i can just selct bios(used an old one when i put it at first release and named bios.bin) Try to run sonic3Dblast.cue image when i select it it just crash at my main android screen

Not all games work yet, some games crash on startup.

I made some button images you can use for yabause. They are the same style as my N64 button images.
