I'm planning to try developing a closed-source net-play module that Mupen64Plus AE can link with.  It will be closed-source because I want to sell it as a separate app on Google Play.  The app will provide a service that Mupen64Plus AE can link with, which handles all the networking backend and provides a higher-level API.

That said, I'll have to talk with Team OUYA to see how best to offer it in the OUYA Store framework (the normal OUYA method of unlocking content does not mesh well with the GPL if you want that content to be closed-source).  I'll probably use some type of downloadable module with a link that can be unlocked for a price.  Not sure on this part yet.  Either way, it will link with the same servers as the Google Play app, so OUYA users will be able to play with other Android users.

Long-term, Mupen64Plus itself will eventually have net-play (probably a few years down the road, but could be sooner since the project is open-source, and the official roadmap for how Richard wants net-play implemented is well documented).  When that happens, I'll conform Mupen64Plus AE to match upstream and discontinue my net-play module (I'll open-source it at that point, in case there is useful code in it for anyone else).

wow, sounds great!

I know aloooooot of people that will buy ouyas just for this reason alone.

At the risk of sounding greedy but do you have an time-plan on the ouya only online feature or is it just an idea so far?

and also hanks for your answer. =)

Edit: Bonus question: Does it support mappacks? ( for higher resolution ) =)

No timeline at this point.  There are many other higher-priority items that need work in Mupen64Plus AE (besides my other projects I'm committed to), so it will probably be a few months before I have a clear timeline.

Hires texture packs can be used with the gles2rice video plug-in.  Some texture-packs include mods which Rice does not support (hopefully will be compatible with the glide64 port eventually)
