Emulator shoots down by unknown file extension.
« on: January 03, 2012, 02:15:51 AM »
The emulator needs the correct file extension now or missed some.
I have a game, that came with extension .rom. It needs to be unziped and renamed in Re-Volt.n64 to make it run.

So the ".rom" extension is a zipped ".n64" file?

it's a .zip file, called revolt.zip
Inside is a ROM with filename Re-Volt.rom.
The emulator says that he found no compatible roms. I have to unzip and rename the file to Re-Volt.n64 to make it running.
Don't know if .rom is a common extension for n64 ROMs. Found it on a ROMz site somewhere.

As I can remember, the non-gui version has loaded these .rom extension before, but the gui version don't.
Because it didn't recognize this extension .rom

Aha, I see.  Yes, I can add .rom to the known types.  The extension really doesn't matter, I just have the app only searching for known extensions to make it easier for folks to find their ROM files.  It does the same when looking through a .zip file, so that's why it says it couldn't find any compatible ROMs.

Another scenario to make the emu "idiot proof" needs to be tested.

Some sites have zip-files with different versions of a rom (Pal/NTSC/multilanguage/english only) included. Don't know how the emulator reacts if he finds more than 1 rom in a zip.

Did you test such a .zip ? Or better, can you enable browsing in a zip achieve to select a ROM from inside, before the emulator extracts to /temp ?

OK. Since we all are using only our original backups, it's not very necessary.  ;)
But I've heard some people don't.  ;D

Haha, yes I will enable zip file browsing at some point.  I was having trouble getting it to work, but I'll eventually get back to working on it.
