Mupen64Plus AE/ Lenovo Phab 2 graphical glitches
« on: March 27, 2017, 04:10:00 AM »
Device: Lenovo Phab 2
CPU: (unknown)
RAM: (unknown)
Resolution: (unknown)
App Version: Current market release - Mupen64PlusAE
Plug-ins: listed below

Description:
App starts fine, but graphical problems occur whilst games are running. Depending on the plugin used, certain games seem to start up correctly, but with others screen is "tinted" blue/ red, broken geometries etc.

Games tested with: Shadowman64, Mario64 (both worked perfectly with gles2rice) Quake64, Quake II and Conker's Bad Fur Day (most problematic N64 ROMs across all plugins - red screen with gles2n64, black with rice, blue with glide). Used all US version N64 ROMs, as I figured there would be better support.

Here's a better breakdown for each plugin:
  • gles2n64 plugin - geometries appear "broken" (3D models incomplete/ missing, no textures?) & colours are tinted red
  • gles2rice - works with certain games (will list more when I can), definitely playable for some, but mostly choppy + with some glitches
  • gles2glide64 - by far the smoothest running plugin for the most part, but with an almost constant blue tint- occasionally flashes back to "correct colours" whilst playing - similar to gles2n64 plugin, except otherwise less glitchy & without the broken geometry

Sorry for lack of details (have been going through a lot of edits just updating/ improving & should probably use the preview button more). The phone isn't mine, I'm just helping setting it up so will add details when I can get ahold of the phone again & do some more testing. Same goes with updating the compatibility list, and will also include screenshots where my explanations sound vague (a lot of this is coming from memory).

With that being said, does anyone have much experience using Mupen on the Lenovo Phab 2 phone? I think it's fairly new so probably not. But considering how obscenely big the phone is, I've had more problems than expected.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'll be doing some testing/ updating later on tonight (about 6pm GMT), and would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks for putting up with this for now though, be back later with news and hopefully a better post.

...Knowing me though, this will probably be edited 15+ times before I feel satisfied enough to leave it alone. ._.

The odd colors may be related to some sort of overlay that the phone is using. Can you check if you have anything enabled like that and see if you can disable it?

Also, can you give this app a try? It's right here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mupen64plusae.v3.fzurita

It's a more updated version of the app. Try the GLideN64-Medium emulation profile.

Didn't manage get ahold of the phone afterall, but I'll try to check out overlays, and try that link tomorrow.

Thanks though, and I'll let you know if I get any results whenever I can (hopefully good ones, and hopefully soon).

Hey, maybe something here could help fix it:

-Disable Hardware Overlays in your Lenovo 2 Phab's Developer options settings. (To enable developer options, go into Settings>About device>Software info>tap Build number 7 times)

- Screen Adjuster app from google playstore may help correct display tint.

-Mupen64plus Fz settings:

Display>Flicker reduction
Input>Use high priority thread
Emulation plugin>GLN64>Hack depth co-ordinates

I have the same problem, it will stain the red or blue screen depending on the graphic plugin I use.
My device: Moto G4 - Android 6.0.1
Have you found a solution? Apparently it has something to do with the superposition since when taking a screenshot the game is seen of the original color
