help with zipped files
« on: February 12, 2018, 05:35:36 AM »
Evening.
I bought Mupen64Plus FZ a little while ago and finally got around to getting some ROMs on my phone, Pixel 2 XL.
I made a Roms folder > N64 folder > #a>z folders > zipped filed here.

I had tried both .rar and .7z.
After some searching, seems .7z does not work with the emulator, but .rar doesn't either?
If not then what zip system should I use, because as of right now it seems I must have the .z64 filed on the phone and those take up lots of room.

It really REALLY should say somewhere in bold print that this app can not use .7z as it's one of the more known systems used for compressing files, and .rar is yet another.. =\

Any help would be great, thanks.

Try using .zip compression.
Compress the roms you have to .zip format from inside your N64 folder by long-pressing it, then choosing Compress in the options.

If you still have no luck, re-scan the Rom directory path from within the app, (library settings) and set it to your N64 folder.

Hello, thank you for the quick reply.

To be 100% honest i forgot about .zip... Lol
But that doesn't nearly compress as good as .7z or .rar :(
Even just a hand full of games and I'm already at like multiple gigs.

Every other emulator I've used on my Android phone seems to have no problem with using .7z
Any chance of it been supported at some point in the future?

Thanks.

Hey again.
Sorry I'm not a dev or anything, just a forum user.

FZ will probably get back to you within a day or so and let you know for sure if .7z and .rar files are compatable or not..

I don't think they are though, but there are some free file explorers from play store that can offer a higher compression in .zip format or convert .rar .7z to .zip.
Maybe they could help to save storage?

I'll have a look around and get back to you if I find anything.

Hey. Yeah, the app only supports zip format files. I have thought about including support for 7zip, but that meant bringing in additional libraries that I didn't want to bring because of bloat.

I will consider adding support for 7zip again. It wouldn't be that hard to do.

Hey guys,
I got it working I just used windows compressing into .zip so that's something.
only reason I was asking was because every other emulation app I use all are able to use 7zip and .rar just fine from the looks of it. 7zip seems to compress the games a lot compared to others so if you store more than 10 games you really feel the difference.

Thanks for the quick replies :)

I added 7zip support, next release will have it. I'm also considering RAR support as well.

RAR is a no go. There are no java libraries that support the latest RAR5 compression format.

Oh wow!
Thank you so much for working so quick with that, having 7zip alone will save so much space and make things easier.
Just waiting for my phone / google store to push the update to me ~ :)

Been having a blast playing some of these games I use to play daily when I was younger.
