Announcing a competition for artwork to use on the Android Market listings!  Two winners will be chosen by popular vote  (one for the main app listing, and one for the Xperia Play app listing).  They will receive a yet-to-be-determined cash prize (from the Market donations) and braggin' rights.  At some point I will also add a credits section to the GUI, and the winners will be listed there as well.  Competitors are allowed (and encouraged) to submit entries for both listings, but two different people will be picked (unless there aren't enough entries).  I'll decide on a deadline at some point, but it will not be before February, so there is plenty of time.  I'll let everyone know when the time to stop accepting entries and start the voting is approaching.

You are free to be as creative as you like, and there is no requirement to incorporate the "paulscode.com" website into the images (although you may if you like).  If you decide to incorporate the app logo (the 3D "M" with the android standing in front), I would ask that it not be altered too drastically (simply because I don't want to have to change it everywhere else in the app).

Entries should include the following:

1) High Resolution Application Icon (Required):  512x512, 32-bit PNG with alpha; Max size of 1024KB.  You can include padding if you like, to maintain a consistent visual weight with other icons. For example, the 512 x 512 image could contain a 464 x 464 pixel shape with 48 pixels on each side for padding. This padding can also be used to make room for a subtle drop shadow, which can help ensure that launcher icons are legible on any background color.

2) Promotional Graphic (Required): 180w x 120h, 24 bit PNG or JPEG (no alpha), Full bleed, no border in art.

3) Feature Graphic (Required): 1024w x 500h, 24 bit PNG or JPEG (no alpha) with no transparency.  Use a safe frame of 924x400 (50 pixel of safe padding on each side).  All the important content of the graphic should be within this safe frame.  Pixels outside of this safe frame may be cropped for stylistic purposes.  If incorporating text, use large font sizes, and keep the graphic simple, as this graphic may be scaled down from its original size.  This graphic may be displayed alone on the Market without the app icon.

4) Screenshots (optional):  24-bit PNG or JPG files in one of the following sizes: 320w x 480h, 480w x 800h, or 480w x 854h


The images will appear on the Android Market website like so:



The high-resolution icon is also used throughout the market to identify the app, and it's what folks see from their phone's Android Market app as well.  I'm not really sure where the promotional graphic is used.

I'll leave this open for a while.  I expect artists will be along eventually as more people begin using the app and decide to stop by the website for one reason or another.  If not, oh well - can always just use the graphics I have now (I'm not the best artist in the world)

Hi! i have been lurking around for some time and now that this competition has come up, i would like to give it a try  :)

Haha, I like it.  No idea on the legality, but to be honest I think Nintendo would be wasting their time worrying about the overalls!

I think I made this the wrong res but I had a crack at making one of the graphics. Sorry if its not very good I havent used photoshop for years. :P

Not sure if its what you were after but I just made a higher resolution version of the current logo and made it abit more N64ish
