Well, gradient, metal, and paper would be effects applied to whatever color scheme/ basic icon is voted in the first place.  So you could potentially have shuy3n's icon on Tripod's folded paper background, for example, or the red M on the metal background or gradient.

VOTING CLOSED

Before I announce the winner, let me first explain one small point.  One category (Basic Modifications for the MAIN BRANCH) was a tie between Shuy3n's curve gradient and his metal curve (2/2).  My plan was that by ranking each category, I would use that to break any ties.  Since I was the only one who actually ranked them, that means I get to break the tie.  I've decided to use the metal curve, since that was the choice for the hi-res icon (if I'm the one choosing, then I think they should match).

Ok, with that settled, here are the winners for each category:

App Icon (both branches)
Shuy3n's re-coloring and Metal Curve background  (image scaling required; I'll take care of this)

Prize:  $150 USD
    Basic Image and Color Scheme
        BOTH BRANCHES  ($50 USD)
    Basic Modifications
        MAIN BRANCH  ($50 USD)
        XPERIA PLAY BRANCH  ($50 USD)

Hi-res Application Icon
Shuy3n's Metal Curve, same as App Icon  (no modifications required)

Prize:  $100 USD
        MAIN BRANCH  ($50 USD)
        XPERIA PLAY BRANCH  ($50 USD)

Promotional Graphic
Shuy3n's "Mustache Android"  (no modifications required)

Prize:  $100 USD
        MAIN BRANCH  ($50 USD)
        XPERIA PLAY BRANCH  ($50 USD)

Feature Graphic
Shuy3n's "Mustache Android"  (no modifications required)

Prize:  $100 USD
        MAIN BRANCH  ($50 USD)
        XPERIA PLAY BRANCH  ($50 USD)

Shuy3n won in all categories (a total of $450 USD), congratulations!   To receive your prize money, please PM me your PayPal email address (or your mailing address if you prefer to receive a physical check).

If anyone missed out on the competition or felt your artistic skills weren't up to par, then I encourage you to enter the Screen Shot Competition.  Hopefully we'll be able to get a lot more entries than we did with this one.  If it goes well, we'll probably hold a video competition after that.  I'd like to hold competitions and things like this every month or so to share the money from donations and to get more people involved and excited about the emulator.  I'm really hoping to turn this into a community project rather than me seeming like the sole owner.

Shuy3n, if possible could you create a "9 patchable" version of your hi-resolution feature graphic?  The idea behind 9-patch is that you have a regular .png image that has regions in it that can be stretched and regions that shouldn't be stretched.  This allows it to be fit onto any aspect ration without looking distorted.  I "9-patched" your feature graphic by simply specifying the stretchable regions as the left, right, top, and bottom edges where the android and words are not drawn.  However, you seem to be a much better artist than I am, so I thought I would see if you could come up with something better (my version looks pretty bad when it has to stretch a lot, such as for squarish aspect ratios.  If you are able to do this, just create a .png image and let me know which pixel row and column regions are the stretchable parts.  If it sounds too complicated, don't worry (I can play around to try and come up with something that works better.  Maybe I could put a plain black single-pixel border around the whole image, and just specify that as the stretchable part).

would be easier to separate the image into layers that are repeatable then the android and logo onto a final top layer? I'm not sure 9 patching it would work with the design :( i think only way would maybe be the border route if separating isn't possible in android.

once again I'm sorry I'm really poor at explaining technical things, even when they're not that technical lol, ill try and show you what I mean though

I'll use the border route for now, but I can probably implement the repeatable layers idea if you can come up with the images.  That sounds like a better idea anyway, even if it does take a little more work in the code to implement.
