Gilles - do you have a commit reference at least, so devs can track down these performance differences retroben keeps discussing?

Noticed another issue with it,input gets disabled briefly when using fastforward, even for a few seconds.
I think it is because the short pause was replaced by a brief slowdown to keep the game going when fastforward was released.

This is probably caused by the framelimiter:

Important note to all testers: Alpha 5 saves diagnostic crash logs to your SD card, which should help us track bugs down a lot faster.  They are timestamped and placed in <sdcard>/mupen64plusae-v3-alpha/CrashReports/.  If you observe a crash, please post the contents of a crash log here.

Rest assured that we will add an option to disable/clear crash logs in a future release.  For now testers will have to clear them manually (each one is a only few kB).

Very good to see Paul is back, and the project is progressing again! Tested the Alpha 3 yesterday, and the only problem I noticed was the lack of compressed roms support, also the cover art for zipped roms doesn't appear, but they are recognized and added to the list. Also Conker's Bad Fur Day still slow as ever here :P

Also would be good to add the new strings to Transifex, so we can start working on translation, and it would be already done in the release date.

Did you take into consideration that kit kat doesn't have write access to the SD card?

How is that the case when save files are on my Intel x86 KitKat 4.4.4 tablet and all other essential files as well?

That just threw me for a loop... why would access to the SD card have been removed?  What good is the SD card at that point?  I'll have to do some googling on the subject sounds like.

No idea, but it's one of the main reasons I rooted my S5, to gain write access to my own SD card. Supposedly a better solution has been implemented in lollipop though.

Edit: I'll clarify further, apps have write access to their own android/data folder on extSdCard but are unable to write anywhere else without changing the permissions via root.
Limited exclusively to kit kat.

Aha, so the idea is that I can write to the SD card, but only to my own folder on it (idea was to prevent modifying data from other apps, presumably).
