Requesting Translations!
« on: February 15, 2012, 06:40:43 PM »
If you are fluent in a second language and would like to contribute to the project, then please explore all the menus and write down translations for all the options.  Be as thorough as possible, and use words that most people who speak that language would understand (this will be difficult for some of the technical stuff - let me know if you need help understanding the meaning something in English so you can write the best translation possible).  Post your translations here (be sure to mention what language it is).  Write the English followed by the translation (so I know what it is that was translated).  If we don't have any Arabic speakers here, I will do the Arabic translation (I'm pretty good with the language, but a native speaker could do a better job)  I'm not fluent in any other languages.

I've set up a shared dropbox folder for the translations HERE.  If anyone wants write access to do a translation or edit an existing one, let me know.  Alternately, you can just download values/strings.xml, do the translation, and email it to me or something, if you don't want to play around with DropBox.

I plan to provide some of the donation money to the folks who do the translations once I'm able to publish this update to the Market.  Since several individuals could potentially contribute to each translation, I'll make my own judgement call on who put the most work into each translation (if anyone feels jipped by this, let me know.. this isn't meant to leave anyone out, just promote more language translations).

Hi, I have now taken some time to go through the app and translate the text.
You'll find the translation in the attached .txt, let me know what you think :)

There are also a few technical terms I'm not quite sure about, but all details can be found in the text file.

Cheers!

Thank you very much for helping out!  I'll add it to the next update.  If you are able to, it would be nice if, as I post new updates, you check the menus every so often to make sure there isn't anything new to translate (or if you think of a better translation).

You're welcome, will try to keep up - if you like you could also give me a heads-up with any new or changed text labels as they come, and I'll give you a translation to include before the update is pushed :)

I noticed there's been added a new menu item in the last version, so I updated the translation a little... :)

Also I added a "menu option" for language selection in advance, as it'll be needed when a multilingual version  is pushed ;)

EDIT: removed language selection option.

The Android API provides a way of tying the language into the phone settings, so I'm planning to use that instead of adding a menu option to select the language.  That way it will automatically be the correct language for everyone.

Ok, but not all phones support all locales - for example my Nexus One doesn't support Norwegian.
Probably not a big issue though, as mine was kind of a "special case" - imported from the US :)

Hi there!
I was looking for the most recent version of  mupen64 and stumbled upon this thread. I'm Portuguese, and would be very happy to help by translating.  That's the reason why I registered  today lol

The thing is I don't know how to start.. Would you kindly provide me with the steps for doing it?
Best regards.

There isn't any formal process for doing the translations (I'll take care of the technical details).  Just install the app, and dig around in the menus for anything written in English, and put together a text document with the translations ( be sure to pair them with the English, so I know what they are a translation of :) )  Thanks for offering to help!

If you have the localization outsourced to a separate XML, I could also write the translations directly into the file so you wouldn't have to - could even use a shared dropbox or something... 8)

Just an idea :)

Here you go, all translated and double revised by me, so it shouldn't have any spelling mistakes.
Let me know if in the meantime there are changes made to the text, so I can take care of it right away.
I'm unemployed right now... I've got plenty of time in my hands, and I have basic understanding of three more languages besides English (Spanish, French and Dutch), so if there's anything else I can do, I'll be glad to help.

I attached the file below. I only hope it isn't too confusing.
Best Regards.  :)

EDIT: I'm sorry, it does have a mistake there.. Where it reads "Restore App Data - Restaurar Dados das Aplica??es" it should read "Restore App Data - Restaurar Dados da Aplica??o"!
