DSoid: new ds emulator for android?
« on: August 12, 2012, 07:39:07 PM »
Well i just wanted to share with you this new ds emulator its called dsoid:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.qingping&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5xaW5ncGluZyJd
It apparently has active support so maybe it will be better than other emulators like nds4droid. Its still bad but maybe it will get better!

No source on something that is in beta stage...

I tested it 4 days ago and it was playing slow with a bad compatibility of games(3 of 13).

Then i updated to the new version 1.5.3 with rewrote cycle timing and now guess what? None of them are working it just get back to file explorer :)

BTW he may try another dynarec and it get better.

Anyone know what the connection (if any) is between this developer and yongzh?  Is this an alternate dev account, or is this someone else just trying to capitalize on the name?

Hard to say for sure, but I think it is unlikely that this is Yongzh's app.  He tends to release his emulators after they are well tested, for one.  And all his other emulators are on SlideMe (if he were going to create an alternate account, why not post some of his previous apps that are still super popular, like N64oid?  And why not publish this app on SlideMe with the others as well?)
Device: Samsung Galaxy Nexus
CPU: TI OMAP4460, 1.2 GHz (dual core, ARM Cortex-A9)
GPU: PowerVR SGX540, 307 MHz
RAM: 1 GB
Resolution: 720 x 1280
Rom: 3.0.31-g396c4df (Android 4.2 Jelly Bean)

Device: Motorola Droid X
CPU: TI OMAP3630-1000, 1 GHz (single core, ARM Cortex-A8)
GPU: PowerVR SGX530, 200 MHz
RAM: 512 MB
Resolution: 480 x 854
Rom: Verizon 4.5.573.MB810 Gingerbread 2.3.34, rooted

I know for a fact this is not yongzh.

Not sure if it is an orgnal work or not.

This is very similiar to tiger nds (first and operated better) and nds4droid

If yongzh were to make an NDS emu it'd be near perfect and I would be fat and happy

It's a real work. Its newest 1.7 build is a quantum leap over the other 2 nds emulators mentioned in this thread
Device: Asus Nexus 7 16 GB
CPU: nVidia Tegra 3 1.6 GHz quad core
GPU: ULP GeForce 512 MHz
RAM: 1 GB
Screen res: 800x1200
ROM/Kernel: (AOSP) Bugless Beast Halloween Build (Android 4.1.2) / faux123 011 Ultimate Edition Max

1.7 is much better even though compatibility is still the same, REALLY.

It's incredibly getting faster than nds4droid while emulating pkm Diamond and jump super stars.

I have my hopes on this emu as I couldn't do many things with nds4droid broken code :/

Good thing it works better... But can someone tell me some good games for ds? I mean all i see is some 2d games, and i really dont want to play that. I mean some 3d games where you move the character.

Grant it I have not tested the Pokemon games BUT

I just tested final fantasy 3 on all three emulators....nds4droid tiger NDS AND DSOID.

all three games perform exactly the same speed wise for final fantasy 3.

Only difference I have noticed with Dsoid is it has less compatiability than the other 2....

In fact the only nds game I own that works on dsoid so far is ff3 .

I am not trying to be a downer I want this to take off as well...but 2 things :

1. This is still painfully slow without sound
2. If dsoid does have a dynarec then it is doing nothing as far I am able to test

To really make a difference there has got to be something new. Has the dev published the source for his app ?

To the person asking about compatible games: I have not found any working games with 3d graphics.  However, I can recommend the Phoenix Wright games, which run flawlessly (and faster than they run on an actual DS).

With no sound.

Nds4droid and tiger nds.also ran those games well...without sound.

I am just skeptical about the dynarec core...

@trev: I have no comment on DSoid's (alleged) dynarec.  I would only recommend DSoid for those wishing to play the Phoenix Wright games on their Android phones or tablets.  And I believe you are correct, Dsoid does not emulate sound.  With that being said, however, there is a marked difference in speed (again, only with the PW games as far as I have tested) compared to both nds4droid and TigerNDS.

Updated: just found that Animal Crossing: Wild World is arguably playable at an estimated 8 fps!

I beat the first level of new super Mario bros Jp. Seems to me like maybe 35% speed but the new update made it fast enough that jumping didnt input lag too much. Zelda Phantom Hourglass also boots intro but white screen when starting a game.
