Conkers Bad Fur Day
« on: September 24, 2012, 01:52:50 PM »
All i really wanna play is conkers bad fur day on my cell phone.  The loading screens are fine, even the pause screen is fine, but when i try to play the game, you cant see the characters, everything looks like weird moving and mostly green triangles.  But the speach bubbles in the game come up fine also.  I have tried to download 2 different version of this rom from different sites and neither work.  they both do the same thing.  I tried to email the developer but i got an email back saying to post here.  So here I am.  Please fix Conkers bad fur day!!!  I really want to play this game.  I am using a Galaxy Nexus running jelly bean OS.  Thank you for you anticitpated co-operation!

Hi, Chelsea, welcome to the forum!  Conkers Bad Fur Day about the highest-end game for the N64, so it is certainly my goal to get it running well.  That said, it currently has a lot of problems.  Currently, the best settings for this game are:

Video Plug-in:
  "Change Plug-in", and choose gles2rice
  "Configure", and use these settings:
    Enable "Skip Frame"
    Enable "Fast Texture CRC"
    Enable "Fast Texture Loading"

Audio Plug-in:
  Disable

RSP Plug-in:
  "Change Plug-in", and choose rsp-hle-nosound

Virtual Gamepad
Disable (if you have an external joystick)
 OR:
  "Change Layout", and pick "Mupen64Plus-AE-Touch"
  Disable "Redraw All"
  Disable "Accurate N64 Stick"
  Disable "Display FPS"

This will improve the graphics considerably, and make the game run at a playable speed on some higher-end devices if you can survive the slow startup cutscene.  The drawback is that you will not hear any audio, which is really the whole point of Conker's Bad Fur Day, so there is still lots of work to do.

Wow it runs almost perfect (except for the no sound, but w/e) so thank you!  the only thing i found is i cant see the pause screen.  The whole screen just pauses, it doesn't bring up the menu or anything.  do i need to change the video plug in from the gles2rice back and fourth to be able to see it?  I noticed with banjo and kazooie i have to do this.  To be able to see the puzzle piece screen I have to change the video plug in but then it disables the pause screen menu, so i have to change it back.  Not a big deal, just wondering if this is the best way to do it.  And thank you for the email about n64oid, once i have funds on the credit card again i will be buying this.  Does it help you out at all?  You have been super helpful for a free app, and I don't want to support another developer, when it was you that helped me.  so thanks again, and i hope to hear from you soon.

Sorry for bugging you again.  but i just tried to switch the video plug-in so i can see the pause screen, and see if that's how you save the game, and all the on screen buttons/controls have disappeared.  they still work, but i just cant see them.  I will try and reset the settings and do it again.  see if that works.  I just read that it auto-saves so i may have just f'd it up on my own for no apparent reason lol sorry

The disappearing onscreen controls can be fixed by re-enabling the "Redraw All" setting (but may be a tad slower).  I think I have a way to fix this problem which I'll be experimenting with soon.

About n64oid, that wouldn't help me out any, as it was developed by a different guy.  It is generally faster and more compatible though, so worth buying if you have the money.

Pual nice work on this emulator i was wondering if you where aware of the barn boys glitch in the game conkers bad fur day. After the intial cut scene you fight franky the pitch fork.. but the glitch makes franky dissappear which makes the mission impossible to beat and makes it impossible to move foward in the game.

Yes, I've heard of that one.  I wonder if it would be possible to get past this section using the Cached Interpreter (would run painfully slow for this game, most likely).  Once past, save the game and switch back to Dynarec.  If you have a chance, could you give this a try?  I don't have a lot of time to play the game myself, so it will probably be a while before I have a chance to do any tests on this part of the game.

Hello,
First excuse me for my poor english, let me congratulate you Paul for your excellent work.
I installed Mupen64 Plus AE (version 2.3.5) on my JXD S7800B ( newbielink:http://www.jxd.hk/products.asp?id=639&selectclassid=009006); [nonactive] it's a relatively high-end device so emulation is quite good.
My issue is with the game Conker itself, when I kill "Haybot" I have to swim to join a ladder but the water is already electrified and so I die very fast.
As you can see in this video at 8:36 ( newbielink:http://youtu.be/nM_P7KXqwow?t=8m28s [nonactive]) The player is enable to swim before the "psycho like" music begins. With Mupen64 the music starts instantly... :(
I tried with Euro and US versions of the game and always the same !
Just wanted to know if someone managed to achieve the game. Thank you.

You might try switching the R4300 emulator to pure interpreter just for this section (and switch it back to dynarec afterwards for speed).  See the plugins section.  Let me know if that doesn't fix the problem.

Thanks Paul, I forgot to answer but I managed to go further on the game with R4300 emulator on "buffer" and not "pure". Thanks and keep going your excellent work !
