Do you happen to know if those high key-codes will pass through a NativeActivity as well (for the XPeria Play folks)?  Not that they'd actually need another joystick..

Thats not a problem. I've taken a look to the supported key codes in android, and all codes are < 255.
Also the Xperia codes: http://developer.sonyericsson.com/wp/2011/02/13/xperia-play-game-keys/

My C64 Emulator "FrodoC64 USB" (with the physical Keyboard support) uses higher codes > 255 for the Keyboard keys... but this Emu dont need the Analog-Key option, so there is no problem.

greetings

Right, I know the XPeria keycodes, and that the supported Android key codes are < 255.  That's actually my concern - will these key codes > 255 be handled properly on the native side when using a NativeActivity, or does this only work with normal Activities which handle key input on the Java side (or does that make any difference?)  The easiest way will be for me to just try it, and it will either work or not, then I'll know  :)

The gui is not a seperate app. Gui is the graphical user interface. The gui can be activated by a button such as the menu button and will open up a setting menu for info, options, and button mapping and such. Im typing this from my android, sorry for errors

if i understand Paul right, the gui is a separate thread and will be minimized or something of the sort so the emulator has focus, allowing it to engulf as much memory as it needs  ;)

It shouldn't have any effect on the speed while the emulator is running, because in Android each frame is in its own separate Activity.  Only one is active and using the CPU and screen at a time (unlike windows which stack on top of each other).  It will of course use some memory for the static components (images, strings, etc), but that will be minimal and will have no effect on speed.  Emulation speed is affected mainly by processor, screen, and audio hardware usage, because the RAM is fixed,  So regardless of how much memory your device has, the emulator uses a fixed amount (it could crash if the device runs out of memory, but it won't slow down).  There could be some slow-down in the transitions (going from the menu to the game and vice-versa), but compared to how long it takes to resume the ROM anyway, I doubt it will be even noticeable.

Paul, If you have finished a stable version with GUI, then I will try it again. Maybe I can help you to optimize the Sound/Video laggs are still exist in the alpha version.

First of all great to see how you have progressed in the couple of months! I'm looking forward to you releasing this in the public :). I only have one concern, is it compatible with android 4.0?

I don't know.. someone will have to try it to see.  It should be if the API hasn't changed too significantly.  It may not take advantage of some new features of course, since it's written for API level 4 (Android 1.6).

It will be ready soon.  I changed the way I'm handling configurations yesterday, which should make the logic a lot easier.  I'll try and get it out this weekend (I know, I said that last weekend..)  There really isn't much left to do, I just need to have the right combination of time, quiet, and motivation to finish it, haha.

The November 5 Alpha Test is working fine for me on CM9 Alpha 11. (Nexus S)

@ Paul and kris

Just for your lazy time ;)

A "nice" OT discussion came up in another forum about your ports, you should aware of it for your further development.
