Is your sound file stereo or mono?  For a point source it will need to be mono (stereo for ambient sources).  Beyond that, I'd say the next thing to check is if you are using normalized vectors (I didn't look at your math closely, just pointing that out - you might do a couple simple tests to make sure panning is working first before tinkering with your turning code)

For manipulating a quickPlay source, the method returns its temporary source name, which you can use to manipulate it (such as setting the volume).

The sound files are mono, and the turns should be normalized. I'll do some more tests and get back to you on those.

One thing I noticed is you are doing a setListenerAngle followed by a setListenerOrientation.  The setListenerAngle is not necessary (it is just getting overwritten by the call to setListenerOrientation - only need one or the other).

You might also check your source position to make sure it isn't right on top of the listener (one possible scenario is that the object/source and camera/listener are both at 0,0,0)
